Who should attend:

Any person aged 16 or over that are required to carry out duties on or near a railway line and does not currently hold a valid Personal Track Safety Certificate.

Objectives:

On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to, in accordance with Railway Group Standards:

• Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly Rule Book, A Guide to Personal Track Safety and relevant local instructions when required to go on or near the line
• Demonstrate their understanding and ability to follow a safe system of work.

This re-certification event can be attended up to 2 months before the expiry of the existing certificate and the certificate will still be valid for 2 years from the actual date of expiry.

Course Content:

• A course workbook designed to help identify areas requiring some refresher training. This is a training exercise facilitated by a trainer and delegates usually work in pairs which is also designed to identify areas requiring refresher training
• A trainer led session to refresh areas highlighted by the workbook exercise
• Revision session

Course Summary:

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking Site Warden training as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure.

It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

Key Aims:

The aim of this course is provide delegates with both the technical and non-technical skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with its unit of competence.

Who Should Attend:

Any person who currently holds a valid Site Warden Certificate and is required to carry out these duties after the expiry of their existing certificate. This re-certification event can be attended up to 2 months before the expiry of the existing certificate and the new certificate will still be valid for 2 years from the actual date of expiry.

Primary Objectives:

On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to:

• Carry out the duties of Site Warden to the standard of competence in accordance with relevant Railway Group Standards

Who Should Attend:

For those who are required to manually operate power operated points which have failed or have been disconnected. A Points Operator works to the instructions of a Signaller or Route Setting Agent, according to the complexity of the failure.

Primary Objectives:

On successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate their ability to interpret relevant sections of the Railtrack Rule Book GO/RT 3000 Series
• Demonstrate their understanding and ability to manually operate failed power points motors in line with relevant rules and regulations

Who Should Attend:‍

Any person who currently holds a valid AOD Points Operator Certificate and is required to carry out these duties after the expiry of their existing certificate. This re-certification event can be attended up to 2 months before the expiry of the existing certificate and the new certificate will still be valid for 2 years from the actual date of expiry.

Primary Objective:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to demonstrate their understanding and ability to manually operate power points motors in line with relevant rules and regulations.

Who Should Attend:

For those who are required to manually operate on Local Control. Level Crossings which have failed or have been disconnected.

Primary Objectives:

On successful completion of the course the delegates will be able to demonstrate their understanding and ability to operate Level Crossing Barriers correctly, in line with Handbook GE/RT 8000HB18 by completion of both a written and practical assessment.

A recertification event to instruct delegates on correctly determining their roles and responsibilities when undertaking the duties of a Level Crossing Attendant. By the end of this course, delegates should be able to demonstrate their understanding and ability to operate Level Crossing Barriers correctly in line with Rule Book GE/RT 8000 series.

Course Summary:

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competence.

The COSS competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to set up a safe system of work on or near the line for a group (two or more). A COSS can also carry out the duties of an IWA provided there are no medical restrictions that would prevent this.

The COSS course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in the Rule Book; Handbook 6 (General Duties of an IWA), Handbook 7 (General duties of a controller of site safety (COSS), Handbook 8 (IWA, COSS or PC blocking a line), Handbook 9 (IWA or COSS setting up safe systems of work within possessions), Handbook 10 (Duties of the COSS and person in charge of a hand trolley) and Handbook 13 (Duties of the person in charge of the siding).

The course includes the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

Who Should Attend:

A COSS who holds the necessary assessments and logbook entries attained prior to recertification.

Primary Objectives:

On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to:

Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly relevant parts of the Rule Book and relevant Railway Group Standards when acting as a COSS

Demonstrate their understanding and ability to set up a safe system of work before any group of staff is allowed to go on or near the line

Course Summary:

This course is designed to train those selected to produce Safe System of Work plans for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

Key Aims:

To provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to complete Safe Systems of Work plans for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

Primary Objectives:

At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

• Understand the process for planning Safe Systems of Work in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/019, Safety of People Working On or Near the Line.
• Access and extract information from various sources and using that information in the production of Safe System of Work Plans for use by staff required to work safely on the Network Rail Managed Infrastructure.
• Have a basic understanding of key Rail Rule Book modules and Handbooks associated with planning and implementing Safe Systems of Work.

This course is designed to re-certify those selected to produce Safe System of Work plans for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

Aim:

To provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to complete Safe Systems of Work plans for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

Who should attend:

People aged 18 or over that are required to be in charge of a worksite within possession and authorise the movement of trains into or within a worksite. Delegates are required to have at least 2 years documented prior experience including carrying out the duties of a COSS and taking supervisory responsibility for a group of persons. This Group Standard also requires employers to select delegates for the role of Engineering Supervisor based on documented processes to assess aptitude and prior experience and gives details of the specific requirements.

Who should attend:

People aged 18 or over that are required to be in charge of a worksite within possession and authorise the movement of trains into or within a worksite. Delegates are required to have at least 2 years documented prior experience including carrying out the duties of a COSS and taking supervisory responsibility for a group of persons. This Group Standard also requires employers to select delegates for the role of Engineering Supervisor based on documented processes to assess aptitude and prior experience and gives details of the specific requirements.

Aim:

To enable certified staff to test that the conductor rail is not energized and to fit short-circuiting straps (strapping).

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course the delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the method of supplying electricity to the conductor rail, including single feed, double feed, and sectioning.
• Use an approved testing device to prove the conductor rail is not energized (Live Line Tester)
• Fit short-circuiting straps on Third Rail DC Electrified Lines.

Aim:

This course aims to recertify delegates in Strapping.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the re-certification, the delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the method of supplying electricity to the conductor rail, including single feed, double feed, and sectioning.
• Use an approved testing device to prove the conductor rail is not energized (Live Line Tester)
• Fit short-circuiting straps on Third Rail DC Electrified Lines.

Aim:

To enable certified staff to operate local track isolating switches as part of the procedure for isolating the conductor rail.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course the delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the method of supplying electricity to the conductor rail, including single feed, double feed, and sectioning.
• Operate hook/track isolating switches in a safe and efficient manner

Aim:

To enable certified staff to operate local track isolating switches as part of the procedure for isolating the conductor rail.
